Kevin Neri uses visuals to gain insight and highlight turning points in daily life. Passion and curiosity is a driving force in his work. Kevin prides himself in storytelling and making the viewers feel like they are in the moment. Kevin does this by building a relationship with the interviewees and being accurate in their stories.
Bay Area born and raised, and growing up, photography as a career was never an idea to pursue until college came around. He's always been interested in what is happening around him and society, inspiring his career in journalism. After picking up a camera for the first time in a photojournalism course at the start of 2022, Kevin knew it was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, as he discovered it doesn't feel like work. While pursuing a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon, he began with sports photography as sports has been present his whole life; it was second nature to him.
Kevin had the opportunity to shoot various sports but mainly absorbed track & field as he resided in Eugene, Ore., known as TrackTown USA. Through lived experiences, Kevin learned what community and culture meant. It led to shooting the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon. He then continued to freelance for KVAL-TV with sports and feature assignments.
After graduating, he returned to California for an internship at The Sacramento Bee. With only experience in photography, Kevin ended up embracing video. Kevin did photos and videos for daily news, breaking news, portrait, and feature assignments for print and online. He covered over 50 assignments in the Sacramento metropolitan area, including producing over 20 videos. This includes in-depth journalism and tight deadlines and being able to edit and send pictures/videos with captions under pressure.
Now, he is a full-time visual journalist at the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore., continuing to capture what life offers.
